At an estimated cost of $3 billion pledged from countries worldwide, work is now underway on a new Sarcophagus to allow the dismantling of reactor number 4 of the Chernobyl Power Plant which is currently only covered by a hastily built shelter which has large holes and fractures allowing further radioactive material to escape and cause more contamination. These photos were taken in September 2015. When the shelter is finally finished it will be slid over the top of the whole structure and when suitable storage has been found it will allow the reactor to be dismantled safely inside the shelter.
