I’m not normally one for museums, but a one off opportunity to visit the Iraq National Museum in October 2012 as part of our ten day archaeological tour of Iraq could not be missed. Admittedly the exhibits have had a hard time of it recently. First, treated as Saddam’s personal treasures, then enduring the free for all that ensued when the illegal American led invasion started. Now, fortunately, those that survived, and even some previously hidden exhibits dragged up from the basements are for the moment back in the hands of caring curators again. The museum was still not open to the public when we visited, but the Iraqi’s are working hard to create conditions that will allow this one day. Lets hope the succeed soon.
